In Virginia and California (USA) two shopping malls have been equiped with a test setup to get the location of people visiting the mall. For this, no additional software on the phones is needed, since it is done using the cellular network. This clearly indicates that there is a need for such data, for reasons we all can imagine:
optimisation of your building and infrastructure
commercial purposes
...
In short, this enables retailers to do what their online equivalent have been doing for ages:

People born in the post-war era (1946-1966) are about 60 years old now. Due to the fact that the quality of life has never been higher than today, this is a generation that is used to a certain life standard, and a certain amount of luxury in their lives. None of them is willing to give that up, nor should they. Many of them are even familiar with modern technologies (computers, the internet, smartphones, ...) and they rely more and more on them. This implies that the health-care environment of tomorrow must be ready to accomodate these needs.

New technologies are continuously developed to support and facilitate human actions. In health-care, a part of society which gains more importance every day, technology is finding it's way by proving the advantages. Nevertheless, a long road is still ahead of us: various problems still exist today, and many situations would benefit drastically from further streamlining and optimisation.
